Following on from my blog a few weeks ago about wheelchair assessments not being done properly in my region (Lancashire) I recieved an invitation to go into the hospital at Preston for a proper assessment.
I wasn’t sure what sort of a reception I would get nor the outcome.
In the room there was an occupational therapists and a technician ( I think ) . They were very nice.
What they said it is normal for a standard wheelchair to be sent out because 90% of the time that is all that is needed and it means that people gets chairs quicker. The problem is us 10% ….but they have no issues trying to accommodate you if you get in touch with them and explain the situation.
So if your wheelchair isn’t right and and you never got an assessment, ring up your provider and ask them for one . I’ll keep you updated.
